Countless practitioners of meditation, through the ages, claim that the practice leads to inner peace and tranquility. Now, modern science and technology uses biofeedback systems not only for practical experimental verification of this claim, but also for learning to consciously achieve the state of inner coherence.

One such biofeedback system, called emWave PC (by HeartMath), uses a computer to monitor beat to beat heart rate and provides the user with an audio-visual feedback about the pattern of its variability. This pattern is an indicator of coherent functioning of our physiological and psychological systems. Instant feedback about the current state of coherence helps the user in conscious control of the inner state.

The state of inner coherence enables the individual control the effects of stress and anxiety on personal health, improve mental clarity, improve academic achievement, control work and test related stress, increase emotional intelligence enhancing inter-personal relationships with family, friends and colleagues at work.

There was a discussion of the underlying science. An audience of 36 attended this demonstration and discussion at the University of Waterloo.
