A Dialogue between Doctors Raquel Ríos and Shiv Talwar

The purpose of this public dialogue is to promote the use of dialogue as a tool to build relationships across race, class, religion and gender for the purpose of collaboration for social justice and change. The dialogue is an interactive experience in which participants from diverse backgrounds share personal lived experiences, insights and thoughts related to a reading selection and consequent thought provoking questions designed by the participants themselves.

Dr. Shiv Talwar retired early from his career of teaching Civil Engineering to follow up on his early dream of doing “something” so that the identity savagery the like of which he experienced in India in 1947 becomes a thing of the past. Consequently, he helped initiate Spiritual Heritage Education Network Inc. (SHEN, www.spiritualeducation.org). Shiv received his engineering education in India, United States and Canada. His childhood education in spirituality and human ethics began on regular early morning walks with his parents and continued formally with some excellent teachers in scheduled courses at school. This background enriched his life and shaped his values, still continues to do so and enabled him later to seek the guidance of his spiritual mentor Late Swami Vishwatma Bawra for advanced direction. Shiv can be reached at shivtalwar@spiritualeducation.org

Raquel Rios, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of Real World Professional Development, a communications and professional development platform for educators and students to engage in a creative dialogue on diversity, community and spiritual awareness. You can reach her at rios@realworldpd.org
