Sandy Milne is the Pastoral Associate at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in the east end of Kitchener . This past winter, her parish hosted a series of presentations, examining the concept of Compassion from the points of view of five of the world’s major religious traditions.
This initiative was inspired by two books showcased in Kitchener Waterloo in the recent past: Karen Armstrong’s “The Great Transformation” in the fall of 2005 and Brice Balmer ’s “Meeting Our Multi-faith Neighbours” in the summer of 2006. Its purpose was to provide a forum for individuals from different religious traditions to interact with each other around a common theme. Organizers were prepared for about 40 guests the first evening. More than 150 attended every week!
In this seminar, Sandy will share some insights about Compassion gleaned not only from the series itself but also from her work with local ecumenical and interfaith groups and from her life experience as farm-girl, wife and mother, teacher of adults and sci-fi fan. She also suggests strategies for meeting some of the challenges that living a compassionate life can pose.
