Our topic of this presentation is yogic contemplation of antiquity and executive function of modern neuropsychology.
Yogic contemplation is a comprehensive, multifaceted, far reaching and transformative technology the use of which can to various ends including realization of a purpose, whatever the purpose may be. If the purpose is to love the One God and love the neighbour, it can lead to it; and if the purpose is to love Good and love the neighbour, it can lead to it also. While one UN sanctioned observance of the World Interfaith Harmony Week expresses an aspiration of the world for peace and harmony, another UN sanctioned observance of the International Day of Yoga expresses a way to its fulfilment.
On the national and global scale, a culture of yogic contemplation can lead to happy, productive, healthy, effluent, just and caring people living with high degrees of peace, coherence, cooperation and harmony with each other without conscious or unconscious bigotry of any kind.
Executive function from modern neuropsychology is a study of how our executive brain, the prefrontal cortex or our conscious mental faculty can lead us in the realization of a purpose. For a human being to attain a specific purpose, there is a time dimension. Most of us cannot stay focused on the attainment of our purpose for an appreciable length of time. Executive function lists a set of capabilities or functions we need to develop of our thinking brain in order for it to lead us successfully to our purpose. While modern executive function points to the way leading to the realization of a purpose , ancient yogic contemplation practically leads us on the way to it.
